Kevin F. O'Connor

Shrewsbury - Kevin Francis O'Connor Sr., “Okie”, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.

Kevin was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to his parents, Abbie and John O'Connor. He grew up in Worcester and was a proud graduate of South High School.

After high school, Kevin began college at Peru State College, where he met some lifelong friends. His education was interrupted when he was drafted for service as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Kevin was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life. Following his service, he finished his education at Nichols college.

Kevin remained deeply committed to his fellow veterans long after his military service ended. He was an active member of several veterans' organizations, including Vietnam Veterans of the Community, the Charles F. Minney VFW Post in Millbury, and the 4th Infantry Association. He served as a National Officer for the 4th infantry division association with the role of Vice President of the Vietnam era, as well as being president of the New England chapter. He was also a charter founder and early president of the 35th Infantry Regiment (Cacti) Association. Through these organizations, Kevin maintained lifelong friendships and continued to honor the men and women with whom he shared a special bond of service.

Outside of his military and veterans' activities, Kevin enjoyed the simple pleasures of being a sports fan. He especially loved watching the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics, and he could often be found following their games and cheering them on. Kevin was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the golf course.

Kevin was predeceased by his beloved son, Kevin O'Connor Jr.; his brother, Brian O'Connor; his brother-in-law, Charlie VanGordon; and his grandson, Wyatt Hill.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Heather (O'Connor) Frugoli and her husband, Alfred, of Chelmsford; his brother, Jack O'Connor and his wife, Sonjia; his sisters, Gail (O’Connor) VanGordon and Ann (O'Connor) Watson and her husband, Richard; his sister-in-law, Diane O'Connor; and his daughter-in-law, Marcy Walker-O'Connor.

Kevin also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Connor Frugoli, Aisling Frugoli, Siobhan Frugoli, Jenaveve Meachum, and Mikayla Meachum, who lovingly knew him as "Poppy," along with extended family and many dear friends, fellow veterans, and comrades who will miss him dearly.

Kevin will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his unwavering commitment to the veteran community, his love of family, sports, and golf, and, most importantly, the special place he held in the hearts of his grandchildren. His service, friendships, and the memories he created with those around him will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

A funeral service will be held in Kevin’s memory at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:30 AM, located at 70 Highland St, Holden, MA 01520. A committal service will follow at 2:00 PM in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 110 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA.
