Holden - Kevin L. Viner, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Born in Worcester, Kevin was the son of the late Frank and Beatrice (Belcher) Viner. He was a proud graduate of North High School, Class of 1964. Throughout his life, Kevin was admired for his natural leadership, boundless energy, and unwavering sense of humor - traits that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Kevin dedicated much of his professional life to education, sharing his skills in welding and metal fabrication with generations of students. He began teaching at David Prouty High School in Spencer and later continued his vocation at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. His impact as a teacher extended well beyond the classroom.
An avid outdoorsman, Kevin embraced every opportunity to be active. He found joy in skiing, cycling, hiking and golfing - pursuits he cherished deeply. From 1986 to 1992, he led the student ski patrol at Wachusett Mountain Ski Resort and proudly served with the National Ski Patrol for 32 years, earning two prestigious Purple Merit Stars in recognition of his service and dedication. A talented athlete, Kevin also played semi-professional hockey with the Fitchburg Aces.
Kevin's greatest joy, however, was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Irene (Murawski) Viner; his cherished daughter, Kimberly Ann Kulman and her husband, Matthew, of Thomaston, CT; his loving sisters, Gerrith Gannon of Clinton and Sandra Beckwith of Manchester, CT; and his adored granddaughter, Samantha Kulman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Kevin was predeceased by his beloved son, Keith W. Viner, his daughter, Dena Marie Viner and his brother, Frank Viner.
The Viner family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at UMass Oncology and Infusion Floor, Health Alliance Home Health and Hospice, especially Kevin's nurse, Mike Culver, and Samantha's caregiving team. A special thanks to "Irish Angel," his niece, Erin, for her kindness and comfort during his final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a memorial service celebrating Kevin's life at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kevin's memory may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
