Leo F. Mullin

October 18, 1921 — March 24, 2013

HOLDEN/SHREWSBURY – Leo F. Mullin, Jr., 91, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Millbury Healthcare Center after an illness.

His wife of 59 years, Rita L. (Gauthier) Mullin passed away on March 25, 2008. He leaves four daughters, Cathy S. Kielinen and her husband Robert P. of Mashpee, Patricia A. Cipro and her husband John F. of Santee, CA, Deborah L. Flynn and her husband Donald R. of Millbury and Susan R. Payson and her husband James V. of Petersham; a son, Leo “Jeff” F. Mullin, III of Holden; a sister, Ellen Carlson of Florida; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Leo was predeceased by a brother, Roy Mullin and a sister, Gertrude Dillon.

Leo was born in Worcester, the son of Leo F., Sr. and Agnes (Rondeau) Mullin and lived in Shrewsbury for 40 years before moving to Holden in 2003. He graduated from Fitchburg State College and earned his masters degree in education at Worcester State College. He was a staff sergeant with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served with the 709th Air Material Squadron in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

Leo taught industrial arts at Shrewsbury High School for 25 years retiring in 1984. While at Shrewsbury High School, Leo was affectionately known as “Moon” and made a lasting impression on all his students. He also taught drivers ed at the school for 18 years. Previously he taught at Auburn High School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and a member and historian of the John E. Larkin American Legion Post 42 in Holden and a former member of the Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post 234 in Northborough and a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, tinkering with small engines and antique cars. Like his father, Leo was a very proper person with much consideration especially of his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved to teach, support and surround himself with his loving family. He will be sadly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Leo will be held on Tuesday, April 2, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson.
