Leonard "Lenny" Alpert

CHARLOTTE, NC - Leonard Alpert, longtime resident of Worcester, MA, died in Charlotte, NC on Monday, June 1st, 2026, at the age of 92. For 69 years Lenny was the devoted husband of Elaine “Shani” Alpert, née Epstein.

A graduate of Boston University, Lenny was for many years the proprietor of Edison Wipers. Upon retirement he and Shani moved south, enjoying their later years in Naples, FL. When they were no longer able to live alone, they made their home with their elder son Bruce, in Charlotte, NC. Their younger son, Gary, who lives in Dallas, TX, was a welcome visitor. Besides his two sons, of which he was very proud, Lenny also leaves three grandsons, Perry Alpert of Charlotte, NC and Jacob and Joshua Alpert of Dallas, TX.

Lenny was Intellectually curious and well informed, reading nonfiction books, especially about World War II, and reading the New York Times every day into his 90s.

He was a loyal, avid Boston sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was an accomplished tennis player and was never happier than when he was on the tennis court, correctly calling the lines.

He was devoted, not only to his wife, but to his wife’s extended family, who were always concerned about his welfare.

Lenny’s sense of humor was dry, but clever. Even as he aged, he was still very “sharp.” Lenny especially took joy in engaging in banter with anyone at every opportunity. With his excellent vocabulary and deeply held convictions he was an excellent conversationalist. He will be sorely missed.

Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 3rd at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Memorial Observance will be announced.  Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
