COMMACK/WORCESTER – Lila (Jonas) Levy, age 85, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by the loving presence of her family. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Saul and Hilda (Greenberg) Jonas, and lived in Worcester for over 20 years before recently moving to Commack, NY.
Lila will be lovingly missed and remembered by her devoted sons, Alan Levy and his wife Beth, of East Meadow, NY, and David Levy and his wife Caroline, of Brooklyn, NY; her sister, Sandra Jonas; her niece, Deboarah Agulnick; her grandchildren, Rae, Alexis, Benjamin, Danielle, Tea, Hannah and Evie; and her son-in-law Jeremy Potter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Marvin Levy in 2021 and by her wonderful and much-missed daughter, Elyse Levy in 2023.
Lila had a deep commitment to Jewish, Yiddish and Israeli culture. She loved nothing more than being with her family for the Jewish holidays to celebrate traditions that survived generations and generations. She could spend hours on end kibbitzing with friends, instructing her grandkids and exploring the colorful words and phases of the Yiddish language. She was a lifelong supporter of the State of Israel which was founded when she was 7 1/2 years old. Visiting the Holy Land as a teenager to spend a summer at Kfir Gilagi Kibbutz sparked a never-ending devotion to her cultural and religious community.
