Lillian M. (Hakala) Knipe

September 16, 1919 — January 14, 2015

PAXTON – Lillian M. (Hakala) Knipe, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Broadview Assisted Living in Winchendon after an illness. She was born in Shrewsbury, the daughter of Jacob and Lydia Hakala and graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1937.

Her husband of 70 years, George A. Knipe, passed away in 2011; she leaves a son, Roger A. Knipe and his wife Sandra of Hubbardston; a grandson, Seth A. Knipe and his wife Nichole of Hubbardston; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob and Koryn; and nephews and nieces.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Paxton and sang in the choir for 50 years. She was a member of the Finnish Heritage Society, Sovittaja in Rutland, the Paxton Senior Center and the Paxton Women’s Club. She enjoyed needlepoint, traveling, summers on Demond Pond and spending time with family and friends

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Monday, Jan. 19, from 11 to 12 p.m., followed by a service at 12 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A private committal service will be held on Tuesday at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Finnish Heritage Society, Sovittaja, c/o Mrs. Eva E. Hirvi, 4 Ridgewood Road, Paxton, MA 01612.
