WORCESTER/LAKE PANASOFFKEE, FL - Lloyd F. Hemenway, Jr., 71, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, died on Sunday, May 12, 2013. He was born in Fitchburg, the son of Katherine (Disalvo) and Lloyd F. Hemenway, Sr.

His wife, Marilyn J. (Oliver) Hemenway, passed away in 1969. He leaves three sons, Lloyd F. Hemenway III of Zimmerman, MN, Lance M. Hemenway of West Boylston and Todd J. Hemenway of Springfield; his daughter, Veronica R. Smith of Daytona, Florida; a brother, Roger L. Hemenway of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Joann M. Montbleau of Holden and Kathleen A. Triola and her husband Francis of Sutton; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and many cousins.

Mr. Hemenway was a graduate of Commerce High School with the class of 1960, Worcester Junior College with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Central New England College of Technology with a BS Degree in Engineering Technology, and received a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Mr. Hemenway spent most of his engineering career in the design of air pollution control equipment and advanced combustion systems for fossil fueled power plants. His engineering field of expertise was metal structures at elevated temperatures, although he always considered himself to be a “Real Engineer”. He was retired from the US Department of Energy as Director of Engineering and Operations at the federal owned and operated Morgantown Energy Technology Research Center, Morgantown, WV. He held US patents and copyrights for some of his engineering work and computer software.

After retirement he pursued his lifelong love of golf as a professional after many years as an accomplished amateur golfer. He played on several mini tours such as the former Tommy Armour Tour, The USA Senior Tour, The 40 Plus Tour, Florida Senior Tour, Moonlight Tour and the Senior Series Tour. With over 40 amateur titles, he managed to add several professional wins to his resume.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring Lloyd’s life at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to J.A.
