STERLING – Lois H. (Miller) Seifert, 83, of Sterling, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. She was born in Sterling, the daughter of Lewis S. and Elizabeth G. (Kendall) Miller.
Lois attended Anderson Junior College and later graduated from Hahnemann Hospital Nursing Program in 1952 and became a Registered Nurse. In 1959, Lois became the Town Clerk of Sterling and worked there for 32 years before retiring in 1991 after suffering a stroke. From 1962 to 1991 she was also the Town Collector. During her long and distinguished career, Lois served the Town of Sterling as Warrant Officer, Burial Agent, Parking Clerk, Town Hall Administrator, Handicap Program Coordinator, and was a member of the Board of Registrar and the Safety Committee. It was known that Lois was involved in everything that took place in the town hall and was an instant wealth of information and in her time, was the back bone of the town in general. She will be remembered for her devotion to duty, courteous manner and instinctive ability to understand the problems associated with her duties for the Town of Sterling.
She was a member of the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association, Retired State and County Municipal Employees Association and a charter member of the Sterling Historical Society. She enjoyed playing bingo, collecting stamps, growing violets, making ceramics and loving their many German Shepherd dogs. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, strength in the face of adversity and devotion to her husband, Fran and family.
Her husband of 21 years, Francis T. Seifert, Esq., passed away in 1993. Her step-mother, Madeline Miller, her brother, U.S.M.C. Major Russell H. Miller, and her sister, Claire (Miller) Lindsey and her husband, Joseph, also predeceased her.
She leaves her brother-in-law, Robert L. Bullard, Sr. and sister-in-law Helena (Seifert) Bullard; her nephew, Robert L. Bullard, Jr. and his son Daniel Bullard; her cousins, Joyce Flanagan and Michael Flanagan; her sister-in-law, Jane Isabel (Perry) Miller and her children, Michael H. Miller and wife his Elaine, Ralph T. Miller and his wife Francie, Mindy (Miller) Peden and her husband Keith, and Russell H. Miller, Jr. and his wife Sue; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their professional and compassionate care; and to also extend heartfelt appreciation to Bob Lowe for his friendship and transportation services and to Laurie Juliano for her care and compassion given to Lois over the years.
Funeral services for Lois are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Department, Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564. Arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
