Evo Louis Baldarelli

July 23, 1914 — August 15, 2007

STERLING – Evo Louis Baldarelli, of 22 Bean Road, born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Louis and Attilia (Pompili) Baldarelli, died in Clinton Hospital on Wednesday, August 15, 2007. He was 93 years old.

He leaves his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Jencks) Baldarelli, two sons, Douglas A. Baldarelli of Sterling and David L. Baldarelli of Sterling. His first wife, Avis (Merchant) Baldarelli, died in 1979. Douglas’ children are Jason Evo Baldarelli, whose children are Emma Elizabeth, Jason Evo and Joseph Douglas. Douglas’ wife Patricia died in 1991. Two daughters Diana J. Baldarelli of Boston and Andrea M. Jepson, wife of Kenneth Jepson of Hubbardston and their children Douglas Hayward and Matthew Patrick. David’s wife is Joanne C. Baldarelli and their son Adam Evo Baldarelli. He leaves a brother Richard and wife Marilyn of Northboro and several nieces and nephews. Evo was predeceased by a daughter Janice M. Boynton, a brother Wallace E. Baldarelli with whom he established Baldarelli Bros. Construction Company; two sisters Florence C. Brinck and Clare Harris. Evo attended West Boylston schools.

He was a Tech Sergeant, U.S. Army, during World War II and served with distinction in the European Theatre with the 160th Combat Engineers. They were known to have built the longest tactical bridge in the world. The rivers that were involved were the Seine, the Seille, Rhine, Regen, Meuse, Saar, Werra, Danbe, Moselle, Sauer, Naab and Isar. Evo had been in many campaigns which included Normandy, Northern France, Ardemnes, Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe. His outfit had received many awards from the countries of France and Russia. He was a member of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204 in West Boylston.

Evo was known to his children as Dad, his grandchildren as Gramp and to his great-grandchildren as Papa. He was totally devoted to his family and they to him. He was well liked among his peers in business, being well known for his honesty and fair-mindedness. His employees were loyal to him as he was to them. After his stroke he was well cared for and loved by a staff of nurses who cared for him lovingly. They included Holly Shaw, Paul Kabasinski, Karen Masterson, Sara McQueston and Preston Omwandu. Betty was a devoted wife to Evo and was there for him on a daily basis until the end of his life. Once in a lifetime a man of Evo’s stature comes along. He was a very modest man.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 19th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral for Evo will be held on Monday, August 20th, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Department, Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
