STERLING – Margrit H. (Frentzel) Hamel, 74, of Redstone Hill Road, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester after a long illness.
She leaves her husband of 50 years, Robert C. Hamel; three daughters, Carmen Luksha of Clinton, Sandra Dieringer and her husband, William of Fern Park, Florida, and Roberta Villamaire and her husband, Daniel of Rifle, Colorado. Her daughter, Barbara J. Hamel, died on July 31, 2006. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, Joseph M. Luksha and his wife, Tina of Baldwinville, Jason N. Luksha and his fiancé, Andrea Vigil of Venice Beach, Florida, and Victoria E. Luksha and her husband, Brendon D. Murphy of Missoula, MT; 2 great granddaughters, Jesselynn C. Luksha and Lindsey Mae Luksha, both of Baldwinville; and many nieces and nephews. Her only sister, Eva Bunting of North Adams, died in 1977. She was born in Hamburg, Germany and lived and worked in Baumholder, Germany, where she met her husband, Robert C. Hamel, while he was stationed there in the U.S. Army.
Margrit worked at ESP Lock and Key Co. in Leominster, until her retirement. Margrit and her husband Robert were members of the Family Campers and RVers organization and after his retirement they enjoyed many years of traveling and camping. She was a member of the Sterling Knitting Club in Sterling. Knitting was her passion. She loved to knit things for her family and friends. She made many knitted articles for charitable organizations, especially for children. Margrit dedicated her life to her loving family and will be missed enormously by them.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester, Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling, immediately following the service. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Susan G.
