Worcester/West Boylston – Marilyn J. (Mongeon) Alves, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Oakdale Nursing & Skilled Nursing Center. Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Lyle and Aune (Aalto) Mongeon. She was pre-deceased by her sister Carol Roberts and her husband Antonio (Tony) Alves.
Marilyn enjoyed a long affiliation with the Mercy Centre, having served as a vocational instructor for 30 years and she was also an Avon Cosmetics representative for 37 years. Marilyn was a member of the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed getting together with friends, both old and new. The only thing that brought her more joy than listening to Elvis Presley was her daughters, grandchildren, niece Heather Brosseau and going shopping…. she loved to shop!
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by all that had the pleasure of knowing her, especially her daughters, Tracy Thomasino and her husband, Michael of Worcester, Candice Umphrey and her husband, Gary of Jensen Beach Florida; her two grandchildren, Ericka Umphrey-Cardoza of Stuart Florida, Brendon Umphrey of Port St. Lucie Florida and her great-grandson Aiden.
Special thanks to Oakdale Nursing Home for all their support and loving attention for the last 6 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 10 to 12 p.m. on Friday, July 18 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
