STERLING – Mark W. Hanlon, 68, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus after a brief illness. He was born in North Adams, the son of the late Charles W. Hanlon and had lived in Sterling since 1975. He leaves his loving wife of 46 years, Donna A. (Vaillencourt) Hanlon; his son, Trevor D. Hanlon of Worcester; his mother, Anita J. (Raymond) Hanlon of Williamstown; his brothers, Kevin C. Hanlon of Clarksburg and Kyle J. Hanlon of North Adams; his sister, Nora B. Hanlon of Rotterdam, NY; his granddaughter, Keelia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Neil F. and Glen R. Hanlon.Mark graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Fitchburg State College. He started working for Sprague Electric at the age of sixteen in North Adams and continued with Allegro Microsystems Inc. in Worcester for many years until recently working for Monster.com in Maynard. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church, the Chocksett Club and was a former Boy Scout Leader all in Sterling. Mark loved to travel, walk the Rail Trails, NASCAR and reading. The family would like to thank the staff of the Neurology ICU at UMass – University Campus for the care and compassion. It was greatly appreciated.Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Funeral services for Mark will be held on Friday, February 2, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling, Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
