WORCESTER – Mary Emilou (Howland) Weissflog, 88, of Worcester, formerly of Chatham, NY, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 in Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester after an illness.
Her husband of 61 years, Herman Weissflog, died in 2005. She leaves a daughter, Deanne Weissflog of Holden, MA; a son, Robert Weissflog of Endwell, NY; two grandchildren, Judith and family of Oswego, NY, and Stephen and family of Rockdale, NY; four great grandchildren and two nephews. Her sister, Helen Andrews, predeceased her. She was born in Athens, PA, daughter of Orlando and Hallie (Cartledge) Howland. Emilou graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1937 and with a B.S. in Education from the S.U.N.Y. at Plattsburgh in 1942. As a member of the Clio Sorority, she made friendships there that she maintained throughout her entire life.
Her family was the center of her life and she loved to cook, to sew and to garden. She was a Home Economics Teacher for several years. Active in her church, she was a member of the Board of Christian Education, a deaconess as well as a Sunday School teacher. In the community, she was on the Board of Directors of Crellin Park, a Rebekah and a member of the Women’s Club, a Paul Harris fellow and a member of the Apple Valley Squares. She was loved by all who came to know her during her life.
Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10th, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. in the First Reformed Church of Chatham, Chatham, NY. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 17th, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, NY. Donations may be made in her memory to the First Reformed Church of Chatham, 23 Kinderhook Street, Chatham, NY 12037; or the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass. Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
