HOLDEN – Mary R. (Hall) Horstman, 82, of Wahlstrom Lane, Jefferson, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 31, 2013. Mary was born in Holden, the daughter of Henry D. and Frances (Mason) Hall and was a lifelong Holden resident.
Her husband of 37 years, Frederick Horstman, died in 1997. Mary is survived by her three sons; Paul F. Horstman, Joseph H. Horstman and Alan W. Horstman all of the Jefferson; three daughters, Anne M. Proal and Jean F. DeJoinville both of Jefferson and Christine M. Crutcher of Rutland; her brother, Henry Hall of PA; her sister, Bertha Stowell of Holden; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Debra L. Gibree.
Mary graduated from Holden High School and went on to study at the Fanning Trade School for Hairdressing. She loved hairdressing and often worked out of her home. Mary was truly devoted to her family, church and community. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Church in Jefferson and was on the Church Bereavement Committee. She volunteered at First Congregational Church of Holden, the Holden Senior Center, Dismas House in Worcester and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Salvation Army. Mary’s kind and abundantly giving nature touched the lives of many and she will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral service for Mary will be held on Tuesday, June 4, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers.
