HOLDEN – Donald M. Halal, 72, of Chapel Street, went to sleep surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 30, 2007.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Jeannette M. (Chebib) Halal, who was formerly of Zahle, Lebanon; a son, Michael S. Halal and his wife Bianca Kong of West Newton; two daughters, Victoria A. Halal and her husband Donald Walker and children Leila and Michael all of Medford, and Jeanne M. Halal of New York City; two brothers, James G. Halal of Holden and Nicholas Halal II and his wife Wendy of Shrewsbury; a sister, Barbara E. Halal of Somerset; an aunt, Marion (Saad) Jazzar, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Two sisters, Effie M. Malooly and Adele M. Halal, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Nicholas and Alice (Saad) Halal, and has lived in Holden for the last 45 years.
Mr. Halal was an accountant for Jaffe, Yaffe and Feingold Accounting Firm in Worcester for 47 years. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where he was active with numerous charitable activities and fundraisers for the church where he served as its treasurer. He was a former member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council of Melkite Greek Catholic Eparchy of Newton and received the Cross of Jerusalem by the Patriarch Maximos in recognition of his service. He volunteered with the Alsac/St. Jude Children’s Hospital and served on the board of several organizations including the Winchendon School.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3rd, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton Street, Worcester. A calling hour will also be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 4th, in the Church, followed by a Mass for Mr. Halal at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA 01604; or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
