Michael J. Zoppo

JEFFERSON – Michael J. Zoppo, 77, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

He was born on August 4, 1947, in Holden, son of the late Dominic J. and Beatrice L. (Beachan) Zoppo. Michael attended grade school locally and was a proud graduate of Wachusett Regional High School, Class of 1967. He went on to further his education at Worcester Junior College.

Michael dedicated 29 years of his career to Bay State Abrasives, where he worked as a Product Engineer. He took great pride in his work and the friendships he built along the way.

Outside of work, Michael found joy and peace in the great outdoors. He enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, hiking, and camping—activities that brought him closer to nature and to those he loved. He especially cherished cruises and vacations shared with his beloved wife, Diane. Together, they made lasting memories exploring new places and enjoying life’s adventures side by side.

Michael was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Donald Zoppo, Joseph Zoppo, Robert Zoppo, David Zoppo, and Bernard Zoppo; and his sister, Elizabeth Macora.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane R. (Paradise) Zoppo of Jefferson; his daughter, Anjanette M. Horrigan and her husband, Richard, of Rutland; his beloved grandson, Ricky Horrigan of Rutland; his sister, Donna Perron of Auburn; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of UMass Memorial Medical Center 7ICU and 7West for the excellent care and comfort given to Mike during his final days.
