WORCESTER – Morton “Morty” Sreiberg, age 98, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Morty was born in Pandėlys, Lithuania, the son of Michel and Eva (Zelovitsky) Sreiberg.
At the age of 11 Morty moved to Worcester where his family settled on the east side. After graduating from Commerce High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II. Morty married the love of his life, Isabell “Issy” (Shnider) and they raised their family in Worcester. They purchased their home on Greybert Lane in 1961 where they remained for 64 blessed years.
In 1953 Morty opened M and I Cleaners, which he operated for over 36 years. Together they raised their children as active members of Congregation Beth Israel where Morty served on many committees and was appointed as a Life Member of the Beth Israel Board in recognition of his constant dedication. He was also a member of the Col. Irving Yarock Jewish War Veterans Post #32.
Morty will be lovingly missed and remembered by his devoted children, Jeffrey Sreiberg and his wife, Debbie , and grandson David, of New Market, Ontario, Canada, and Cheryl Vati Sreiberg and her partner John Dearie of Worthington, MA, and step-granddaughter Brynne Dearie of Costa Rica; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 76 years, Isabell “Issy” (Shnider) Sreiberg just seven months ago, his brother, Ben Sreiberg, and his sister, Sarah Entin.
Morty’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care and dedication of his caregivers, as well as the staff of the Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence.
Family and friends will gather to honor Morty’s life at a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 5th at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worcester. Interment will follow at Holy Society Cemetery, Havana Road, Leicester. Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Memorial Observances will be announced.
