PAXTON – Nancy C (Pirro) Schlemminger, age 76, died peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester, as a result of long-term complications of Parkinson’s Disease, with her devoted husband by her side. Born in Leominster, she was the daughter of Frank and Eleanor (Occhipinti) Pirro and was a lifelong resident of Central Massachusetts.
Nancy graduated from Leominster High School, after which she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Union College. She went on to pursue a Master’s degree from Anna Maria College and worked for 25 years as a Business Education Teacher, first in Shrewsbury and eventually in Leominster. Nancy leaves behind a legacy of the thousands of students whose lives she touched during her teaching career.
Prior to her teaching career, Nancy worked as a civilian stenographer at Fort Devens, which is where she met her beloved Lee. When she left Fort Devens she received a special commendation from the Commanding General of the base.
An avid gardener, Nancy could often be found outside caring for her flower beds. Inside the house, she might be tending to her sewing or expressing her culinary talents in the kitchen. Nancy and Leon shared a passion for travel, particularly destination in Europe including France, Germany, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. They created happy memories skiing in Vermont throughout their marriage. Nancy was proud to have served as the Secretary of the Massachusetts School Bank Association.
Nancy will be lovingly missed and remembered by her beloved husband of 55 years, Leon E. Schlemminger of Paxton; her brother, Frank Pirro of Vermont; and many cousins.
Family and friends will gather to honor Nancy’s memory beginning with Calling Hours from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 31, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, with her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Mooreland Cemetery, 257 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Memorial Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
