WEST BOYLSTON – Daniel N. Mercurio, 88, of Lancaster Street, a life-long resident of West Boylston, died Friday, October 31, 2008, in the Sterling Healthcare Center, surrounded by his loving family.
His wife of 55 years, Norina C. (Carima) Mercurio, died in February of 2002. He leaves a son, David P. Mercurio and his wife Melanie of West Boylston; a brother, Adam Mercurio of West Boylston; a sister, Angeline Larramie of West Boylston; a daughter-in-law, Paula Mercurio of West Boylston; and four grandchildren, Talia (Mercurio) Lapointe of Holden, Daniel, Laura and Francesca Mercurio, all of West Boylston, and a son-in-law, Andrew Lapointe. A son, John D. Mercurio, died in September of 2000. Two brothers, Joseph and Michael Mercurio, and two sisters, Rachel Molinari and Florence Cote, predeceased him.
Mr. Mercurio was born in West Boylston, son of Rosario and Maria Grace (Paulvaria) Mercurio. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the third armored division, American and European African Middle Eastern Theatres, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge. He was the second generation owner and operator of Mercurio Construction in West Boylston, where he worked for many years before his retirement. He diversified the company in 1946 to run heavy equipment.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Church and charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6907 in West Boylston. He loved gardening and spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A Dahngark Service will be performed during the calling hours. The funeral service for Mr. Mercurio will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3rd, in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church Street, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 91 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
