Biography
STERLING - Oleg Osmolowski, 76, of Sterling, died from cancer on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Known to his siblings by his nickname, “Lutik”, he was born in Belarus in 1938 to Ilja and Rosalia (Kindrov) Osmolowski. He was the youngest of 7 children.

Oleg is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marianne (Ogorewac) Osmolowski of Sterling who is currently residing at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester; his son, Alan Osmolowski and his wife, Lisa (Speroni) of Holden; and his two cherished grandchildren, Alexis and Matthew of Holden. His siblings predeceased him with the exception of two sisters who reside in New Jersey.

The life story of Oleg Osmolowski is one of the American dream. He was born in Belarus one year before the beginning of World War II. It was an inconvenient time and an inconvenient place. He and his family later fled war-torn Europe and communism to build a better life in the United States. Belarus lost one third of its population during World War II.

Although his start in life was from a difficult situation, through hard work and steadfast determination Oleg went on to build the life he envisioned in the United States. Those who knew him will always remember him as someone who always focused on where he wanted to be and not on limiting memories of past difficulties. Oleg was a veteran of the US Military, having served in the United States Army from 1956 through 1958.

Oleg will be remembered by many as the person who operated Osmolowski’s Sunoco service station located on Main Street in Worcester for many years. After selling his service station business, he began renovating and renting residential real estate in Worcester. Later in life he cared for his wife so that they could both be home together for as long as they could.

Oleg’s family would like to thank all of the wonderful people at the Rose Monahan Hospice House and the VNA Hospice program for all they did for their beloved husband, father and grandfather and his family, as well as thank all of the many other medical professionals and caregivers that touched their lives.

The family is planning a small private service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations please be made to VNA Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Development Office, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608 or online at www.vnacarenetwork.org/donate . Miles Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling is assisting the family with arrangements.
