STERLING – Richard Paul Kneeland, 69, of Sterling, died peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the St. Francis Home in Worcester, following a period of declining health with his loving wife by his side.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne C. (Kotomski) Kneeland, two weeks short of their 38th wedding anniversary; his mother, Evelyn E. (Seuss) Kneeland of Sterling; a brother, Foster A. Kneeland of Houston, TX; a sister, Marcella DiDominico of Norfolk; two nephews, Jason B. Kneeland of Round Lake Beach, IL and Cory A. Kneeland of Beaumont, TX; a niece, Melana DiDominico Spalding of Attleboro; a great-nephew, Brett A. Kneeland of IL; and two great-nieces, Marie Claire Kneeland of TX and Leah Elizabeth Spalding of Attleboro; and several cousins. He was born in Worcester on November 7, 1941 to the late Paul G. Kneeland.
Richard graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and served in the Army National Guard, HHC 21st Battalion, 181st Infantry, honorably discharging in 1969 after 6 years. He was employed as a master machinist beginning at Coppus Engineering, following the company to Millbury, enduring the changes, and retiring after 33 years.
Inspired and nurtured with the art of gardening, and the love of flowers by his beloved "Opa & Oma", Richard's love for gardening was constant in his life. He also enjoyed fishing and feeding the birds, working in his yard and home. He was a great "Mr. Fix It". Along with his beloved wife, he loved the beaches of the east coast and cruising to the Caribbean.
Richard and his family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the St. Francis Home, especially to Sr. Marna and Dr. Nancy Said. Blessings upon you for your kind, dignified, and loving care of Richard and his wife.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 30th, in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. JoAnne's cousin, Fr. Richard P. Lewandowski, who married Richard and JoAnne in 1973, will be the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the St. Francis Home, Patient Activities Fund, 101 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01604. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling.
