Rebecca H. Poole

December 16, 1914 — February 25, 2014

WAYLAND – Rebecca H. Poole, 99, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Sterling Village, Sterling after an illness. She was born in Waltham, the daughter of Frederick and Ruth E. (Smith) Poole.



She was stricken with polio as a child yet went on to graduate with honors from Waltham High School in 1932 and Boston University in 1936 before pursuing graduate studies at Simmons College.



Rebecca was as a social worker at Boston City Hospital and area hospitals for many decades. She was a first seat violinist, an accomplished artist of oils and ink and pen and was an avid Red Sox fan.



She leaves her first cousin, Elizabeth Hoisington; a second cousin, David Hoisington, both of Washington State; her friend and caregiver, Linda Malo of West Boylston; and friends, David Milton of Westborough and Gail B. Amabile of Bolton. She was predeceased by her dearest friend and companion, Richard A. Milton of Bolton.



A graveside service for Rebecca will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at Wadsworth Cemetery, Concord Road, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The International Rehabilitation Center for Polio, Spaulding Rehabilitation, 570 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA 01702. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
