SUTTON - Richard "Dick" Daniel Norlin, 65, passed away suddenly on September 20, 2016, after being stricken ill while vacationing in Oregon with his wife Karen. Richard was born on May 3, 1951, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Yngve and Ellen (Carlson) Norlin. He grew up in Sutton, Massachusetts, and lived most of his life in his home on Lake Singletary.He leaves his loving wife of 34 years, Karen (Delle) Norlin; son, Seth Norlin and his wife, Sandra and their children, Felicity and Jakob of Attleborough; sister, Susan Norlin-Staudaher and her husband, Steven of Sterling; nephews, Shawn Staudaher and his wife, Ginger of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Nick Staudaher of Salt Lake City, Utah; cousins, in-laws and many wonderful friends. Richard received a BS degree in Chemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1973, and a MS degree in Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1983. He worked as a chemist and lab manager, retiring in 2008.He was an outdoor enthusiast, spending much of his time rock climbing, bicycling, skiing, hiking, and boating with family and friends. He completed many century (100-mile) bicycle rides with his wife Karen in recent years. Richard volunteered with the Lake Singletary Watershed Association, serving as president and director for many years.Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard's family at a memorial service on Saturday, October 29 at 2 pm at Miles-Sterling Funeral Home & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Route 12), Sterling, Massachusetts. Burial will be private in New Howard Cemetery, Armsby Road, Sutton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Deschutes County Search & Rescue Foundation, PO Box 5722, Bend, OR 97708.
