STERLING- Robert L. Bullard, Sr., 91, of Sterling, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Leominster. He was born in Sterling, the son of Albert O. and Florence (Gibbs) Bullard.
Robert graduated from Leominster High School and attended Worcester Academy. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Sergeant in the Army’s Company G, 477th Quartermaster Regiment stationed in Alaska. After the war, he graduated from Franklin Technical Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He also attended Northeastern University for management courses. Upon earning his Electrical Engineering degree, he was hired by Surprenant Wire & Cable Co., a manufacturer of precision wire used in the NASA space and United States rocket and missile programs. Surprenant Wire & Cable in Clinton was later known as Rockbestos Corp. and ITT Surprenant. He was vice president of engineering and after retiring he did consulting for Brand-Rex Wire & Cable. He served 9 years on the board of the Sterling Municipal Light Department.
Bob was an athlete in high school and sports enthusiast all his life. He coached Little League baseball in Sterling for several years. He bowled many years in the Sterling Candle Pin Bowling League. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their summer home on Lake Monomonac in Winchendon and winter vacations in Palm Coast, FL and many trips to Europe. He was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Helena (Seifert) Bullard; his son, Robert L. Bullard, Jr. of Sterling; his grandson, Daniel F. Bullard of Clinton; his niece, Joyce H. Flanagan of Novato, CA; and nephew, Michael J. Flanagan of Sterling. His brothers, Albert O. and Fred G. Bullard, his sister, Helen G. (Bullard) Flanagan and nephew, Paul J. Flanagan predeceased him.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Life Care Center of Leominster and the skilled and compassionate people of Affinity Hospice of Life.
Funeral services for Robert are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564. Arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling.
