Robert Edwin Chapman

PRINCETON/HOLDEN – Robert Edwin Chapman, Jr., 91, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare - University Campus after an illness. He was born on August 25, 1923 in Wilkinsburg, PA, the son of Robert and Marion (Bradish) Chapman, Sr. and had lived in Princeton for over 40 years before moving to Holden six years ago.

He leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Marion G. (Hoyle) Chapman; four children, Deborah L. Chapman and her fiancé, David Harrington of South Dennis, Gerry B. Chapman and his wife, Susan of Westminster, Robert E. Chapman III and his wife, Karen of Bradenton, FL and Susan E. Chapman and her partner, Sue E. Lauder of Worcester; a brother, Richard M. Chapman of Oakdale; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois A. Harding.

Robert graduated from Wilbraham Academy in 1942 and attended Syracuse University before earning a degree in Business from Bryant & Stratton College. He co-owned R.E. Chapman Company in Oakdale for many years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester including: The Worcester Lodge of Prefection, Goddard Council, Prince of Jerusalem and the Lawrence Chapter of Rose Croix. He also was a member of the Boston Consistory and the Stella Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star in Auburn. He was a former member of the Princeton Conservation Commission, the Road Advisory Committee and the Wachusett Regional School Committee. He enjoyed sailing on Cape Cod and loved to spend time with his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, October 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life for Robert at 2:30 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114-2699.
