Hubbardston

Hubbardston - Robert Lyndon Hubbard, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 4, 2025 at St. Mary Healthcare Center. He was born in Gardner, the son of the late William F. Hubbard and Amy V. (Bankowski) Hubbard. Robert was a lifelong resident of the Town of Hubbardston.

Robert was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara, with whom he spent 67 years of marriage. They met in Sunday School at age 3 and were inseparable thereafter. He leaves behind four daughters, Carol J. Hubbard-Kelley and her husband, Mark J. Kelley of Hubbardston, June L. Hubbard-Ward and her husband, Francis J. Ward of West Boylston, Nancy J. Hubbard and her husband, Matthew H. Hopkinson of Hubbardston, Mary J. Taylor and her husband, Wayne F. Taylor of Hubbardston; 9 grandchildren, Robert (Tracy), Jason (Angie), Jonathan, Amy, Joseph, Robin, Abigail (Justin), Royce and Rose; 6 great grandchildren, Jordan, Jackson, Layla, Lucy, Tristen, and Vera. He left several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother William R. Hubbard.

Robert graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1955 and began work in the tool and die manufacturing industry. He retired after finishing his career as a mechanical engineer.

Bob was a fixture in town. Born in the parsonage, where he lived the first years of his life with his parents and grandparents, including the Hon. Rev. Horace Hubbard, he was a lifelong active member at the First Parish Unitarian Church, helping Barbara with all her civic pursuits, and enjoying his own. A member of the Gardner Horseshoe Club, ten pin bowling leagues, and the New England Fly Tyers. He enjoyed canoeing, softball, archery, flyfishing, family history and photography. He also dearly loved his Scotty dogs.

In their retirement, Bob and Barbara enjoyed traveling all over the US, Canada and the UK. They enjoyed their time at the family lake house in New Hampshire with family and friends, known as Goose Pond, that Bob designed and built and spending time with all the grandchildren who dearly loved “Bonka”. Everyone who knew him will have a story remembering what a fun-loving, jokester he was, always quick-witted and ready to challenge your perspective. From feeding the toddlers lemons and prunes (giant raisins), to claiming everybody’s birthday as his own, there was never a dull moment.

Funeral arrangements are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
