Douglas - Robert F. McKenney, lovingly known as Rob, passed away on November 5, 2026, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of Mary A. (Appleton) McKenney. Rob grew up in Holden, Massachusetts, where he met his future wife, Marcia, during grammar school. He later attended North High School in Worcester and continued his education at Quinsigamond Community College before proudly entering the United States Army in 1981. Following his honorable service, he returned home in 1984 and began a career as a mechanic, a profession he continued to enjoy throughout his working years. Rob was a proud member of the Local 4 Union

Life brought Rob and Marcia together again around 2010, rekindling a connection that had begun many years earlier. Their renewed relationship eventually led to marriage, and together they shared many happy adventures, especially their love of four-wheeling and enjoying the outdoors.

Rob had a personality that was truly larger than life. He possessed an incredible ability to light up any room with his infectious laughter, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor. He never lost his youthful spirit or mischievous nature. Whether playing pranks on friends and family or teasing someone in a way that only Rob could get away with, he always found a way to make people laugh. He rarely took life too seriously and was not easily offended. He had a remarkable ability to let things roll off his back, find humor in almost any situation, and move forward with a smile.

One of Rob's greatest gifts was his ability to bring people together. He welcomed people from all walks of life and embraced their differences, even when he wholeheartedly disagreed with their opinions or beliefs. He loved his family, friends, and coworkers fiercely, and his loyalty to those he cared about was unwavering. Rob made friends wherever he went, and once you met him, you never forgot him. He left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

He especially enjoyed giving silly, unexpected gifts for birthdays and Christmas, always looking for another opportunity to surprise someone and bring a smile to their face. Rob was never afraid to be the center of a joke, particularly if it meant making someone else laugh.

Rob also had a special place in his heart for animals. He loved them all, spoiled them rotten, and always looked forward to their visits. He had an adventurous spirit and a genuine enthusiasm for experiencing new things. Music was another important part of his life. He spent much of his free time attending concerts, with Phish and the Grateful Dead among his favorites. There was almost always music playing wherever Rob was, bringing him comfort, happiness, and perhaps a little escape.

Rob believed in living life to the fullest, following his own path, and doing things his own way. He was unapologetically himself: independent, spirited, fun-loving, and completely unforgettable.

In addition to the countless memories he leaves behind, Rob leaves a legacy of laughter, friendship, loyalty, and love. He lived life on his own terms, loved deeply, and laughed often. There was only one Rob, and there will never be another quite like him.

Rob was predeceased by his beloved son, Nicholas S. McKenney, and his brother, Sean P. McKenney.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Marcia (Young) McKenney; his mother, Mary (Appleton) McKenney; his sisters, Meridith Knight and Erin McKenney; his nephew, Cameron McKenney; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him tremendously.
