Robert A. Strong

June 19, 1946 — July 21, 2012

PRINCETON – Robert A. Strong, 66, of Wheeler Road, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus. Born in Holden, Robert was the son of Clarence and Eunice (Handy) Strong of Rutland, and lived 21 years in Rutland before moving to Princeton in 1969.



Robert graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and worked at Norton Company and Saint Gobain for 30 years retiring in 2008. Previously, he worked Rutland Heights Hospital and volunteered at Henry Heywood Hospital in Gardner and the Princeton Senior Center. He was a member of the Rutland Sportsman’s Club and was an avid follower of New England sports teams most especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. Robert was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and after being honorably discharged in 1967, continued to serve in the Army National Guard until 1971.



Robert was truly a “family man” and enjoyed taking the grandkids fishing and watching them play sports. On July 11, 2012, Robert was given the “gift of life” by his niece, Heather Wagner–Yates of Fulton Missouri, with whom his family will always be eternally indebted to for her act of love and courage.



His is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly A. (Yoder) Strong; his daughter, Leigh-Ann M. Strong of Rutland; his son, Kenneth R. Strong and his partner Robert Ackerman, Jr. of Oxford; two grandchildren, Christopher Ackerman-Strong and Joseph Robert Ackerman-Strong, both of Oxford; two brothers, Gary Strong and his wife Donna of Worcester and Joseph Strong of Spencer; six sisters, Patricia Crow of Rutland, Nancy Burleigh and her husband Ronald of Micanopy, FL, Bette Bell of East Lempster, NH, Barbara Jones and her husband Pete of Mount Pleasant, IA, Irene Daddario and her husband Donald of New Paltz, NY and Donna Wands and her husband Gene of Conyers, GA; and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by three sisters, Deborah Bouchard, Doris Keller and Gloria Strong, and two brothers, Clarence Strong, Jr. and David Strong.



Relatives and friends of Robert are invited to gather at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, followed by a funeral service honoring his life at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
