HOLDEN – Roberta (Houghton) Wood, 90, formerly of Bryant Cove in Holden, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing Home, Worcester, after an illness.
Her husband of 53 years, Robert T. Wood, died in 1993. She leaves two daughters, Patricia Lee Wood of Medford and Merith "Merry" L. Cole and her husband James of Jefferson with whom she lived; four grandchildren, David A. Cole and his wife Laurie, Julianne Dunn and her husband Robert, William P. Cole and his wife Melanie, and Gregory W. Loser; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Michele Cole, Kevin Dunn, Oliver and Charlotte Cole; many nieces and nephews. Her twin brother, Robert Houghton, and two sisters, Barbara Howe and Virginia Blanchard, predeceased her.
Roberta was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Hervey F. and Laura (Griffin) Houghton, and lived in Worcester, Pennsylvania, New York and 25 years in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, before moving back to Holden. She was a graduate of Classical High School and Becker Jr. College; and was affiliated with St. John's Episcopal Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling period from 2 to 3:45 p.m. followed by A Celebration of Life Ceremony at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd, in St. John's Episcopal Church, 166 Holden Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial donations may be to Holy Trinity Hospice, 2 Foster Street, Suite 2, Worcester, MA 01608-1704.
