BARRE – Roy F. Grandone, 77, of Wilton St., died peacefully under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Meadows of Leicester on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, after a long illness. Born in Worcester and raised in Sutton, Roy was the son of Joseph and Juliette (Weaver) Grandone and lived over 50 years in Barre.
Roy graduated from Sutton High School where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He later attended Clark University where he received both his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Education. While at Clark, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity. He was a teacher and a long-time principal at the Hubbardston Center Elementary School before retiring in 1992.
He continued his love of baseball by playing softball throughout the years on local men’s softball teams. He avidly followed his favorite sports teams, and enjoyed promoting the Chicago Bears, especially when amongst Patriots fans. Roy and his wife, Roberta, looked forward to spending time with their friends and playing trivia, while, of course, using lottery scratch tickets as the ‘prize’.

He leaves his granddaughter, Emily Anne Grandone; his great-granddaughter, Kalypso Pandora DeCologero; his daughter-in-law, Amy (Jefferson) Grandone; his sister-in-law, Justina (Maki) Lachapelle; his brothers Emmett and Kermit; his nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends. Besides his parents and wife, Roy is also predeceased by his son, Joseph Otto Grandone, who died in 2004.
