WORCESTER - Ruth M. (Valadka) Lakus, 94, died on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Christopher House in Worcester. Born in Worcester on the 13th of October, 1918, Ruth was the daughter of Joseph and Magdelene (Dereskevicius) Valadka, and was a lifelong resident of Worcester in the south Ward Street area. Ruth was a resident of Christopher House in Worcester for the past three years.
Ruth’s devoted husband Joseph J. Lakus, died in 1983. She is survived by her two sons, Richard J. Lakus and his wife Janice of Holden and Paul S. Lakus and his wife Cynthia of Hampton, NH; two grandsons, Steven J. Lakus and his wife Pamela of Charlestown, MA and Adam Lakus of Hampton, NH; and two great grandchildren, Matthew and Claire Lakus of Charlestown, MA. She was predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Grenevich.
Ruth loved to garden. Her flower plantings were always the talk of the neighborhood. She was a talented cook and homemaker and was known for her authentic Lithuanian dishes which she and her beloved cousin Blanche Matukaitis, prepared and served to countless relatives and friends. Above all she enjoyed her home and making people happy. She will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 26, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Catholic Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
