Scott M. Mahoney

PAXTON – Scott M. Mahoney, 56, beloved husband of Dawnmarie (Varney) Mahoney, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born and raised in Worcester, Scott was the son of the late David and Deborah (Mulhearn) Mahoney.

Scott was a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School. He went on to enjoy a long career as a Corrections Officer at the Worcester County House of Corrections, retiring in 2010 after 20 years of dedicated service. Scott then received his water testing license and worked with his father-in-law for many years, enjoying the part-time work close to home

In his spare time, Scott enjoyed playing a round of golf regularly with his friends. Above all else, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and visiting his grandchildren every week.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 23 years, Dawnmarie, and their son, Dylan Mahoney of Paxton; his daughter, Maura Rinaldo and her husband, Joseph of Rutland; a sister, Lisa Kachadorian of Worcester; his two grandchildren, Joseph Rinaldo and Matthew Rinaldo; his brother-in-law, Paul Varney, Jr. and his wife, Carrie of Barre; his father-in-law, Paul Varney, Sr. of Barre; his niece, Julia Tuliano and her husband, Joseph of Barre; his nephew, Justin Varney of Leominster; a great-niece, Evelyn Tuliano and great-nephews, Wesley and Gideon Tuliano. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David Mahoney and his sister, Sheri Kachadorian.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. www.milesfuneralhome.com
