HOLDEN - Sylvia Doane-Lavigne, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Gardner Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. She was the daughter of the late Clayton D. and Rachel B. (Roberts) Doane.
After graduating from Holden High School, Sylvia took a position as an executive secretary at Hanscom Air Force Base where she was a dedicated employee for over 40 years. She enjoyed public speaking and was a member of Toastmasters International. She was a member of the Doane Family Association and the Mayflower Society. She traveled extensively and made 9 separate trips to Europe with her girlfriends. One of her most memorable trips was to Cheshire, England to visit the Doane Castle. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and was an avid New England sports fan for both the Patriots and the Red Sox.
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her two nephews, Leonard Doane of Hubbardston and William Doane and his wife, Teddie Hubbardston; and several grandnephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Ernest H. Lavigne; a brother, Alfred A. Doane, Sr., and a nephew, Alfred. A. Doane, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Sylvia’s family from 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Spring burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
