WORCESTER - Theresa (Berardi) Verdi, 94, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008. She was born November 23, 1913 in New York, New York, the daughter of Angelo and Louise (Romano) Berardi.
Theresa leaves three devoted children; daughter Angela Siracusa and husband Thomas of Roswell, GA; son Philip Verdi and his wife Karin of Wilton CT and daughter Susan Peacock and her husband Glenn of Worcester. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and her beloved sister, Rose DiRienzi of Baltimore, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Verdi in 1982.
Theresa's life was full of many exciting pastimes, which included playing poker, bingo and cooking. She enjoyed going out for lunch, and volunteering at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester. Celebrating the holidays, especially Christmas, was her favorite, as she enjoyed baking and cooking for all her family.
"Nanny" as she was referred to by all who loved her, had a shy, serious demeanor that was often tendered by a laugh that was infectious and joyful. She could often be found listening to Jerry Vale, Dean Martin and other favorite Italian crooners. She was most proud of her Catholicism; she said the rosary every day and attended church regularly. Nanny will be affectionately remembered for her colorful colloquialisms, fastidious cleaning, and her devotion to her family. She will be missed.
A memorial Mass will be held in St. George's Church, Brattle Street, Worcester, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Healthcare Center, Activities Fund, 39 Queen Street, Worcester, MA 01610. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
