WORCESTER – Thomas J. Martelli, 86, formerly of Rutland, died Friday, February 25, 2005, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after an illness.
His wife, Lucille L. (Lature) Martelli, died in 1993. He leaves two brothers, Anthony Martelli of Rutland and Ernest Martelli of Redwood City, California; a sister, Matilda Haney of Rutland; a grandson, Dean P. Vicaire of Southbridge; and close friends, Paul G. and Mary E. Corbin of Worcester. He was born in Holden the son of Lorenzo and Josephine (Nagra) Martelli and lived many years in Rutland and 20 years in San Diego, California before moving to Worcester in 1997.
Mr. Martelli graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and owned and operated Martelli’s Garage in Rutland for many years. He later worked for Budweiser Brewing Company in California for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He attended Burncoat Baptist Church in Worcester. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
The funeral service for Mr. Martelli will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, in Burncoat Baptist Church, 475 Burncoat Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1325 Main Street, Holden. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burncoat Baptist Church, 475 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
