Thomas D. Lawless

June 5, 1962 — July 11, 2012

RUTLAND/WORCESTER – Thomas “Tom” D. Lawless, 50, of Rutland and formerly of Worcester, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Born on June 5, 1962, he was raised in Worcester and lived in Rutland for the last 26 years.

Tom was a 1980 graduate of Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury and a 1984 graduate of Bentley College in Waltham. He was the director of used truck sales for AMI Leasing for over 20 years and most recently a self employed leasing consultant. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Rutland where he taught Confraternity of Christian Education.

He was proud of his Irish heritage and will be remembered for his quick Irish wit, infectious smile, blue eyes, and his compassion and willingness to help those who were less fortunate. Tom touched many lives in a special way by making us laugh and he was always there if you needed him. He was a good shepherd who loved his God, his church, his son, his family and friends. You were blessed to call him a friend.

Tom was an active and dedicated alumnus of Saint John’s High School where he could be found enthusiastically volunteering at many of its events. He enjoyed all sports especially the Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots and his beloved Saint John’s teams. He was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle and friend. Tom embraced fatherhood with a passion. His proudest moments as a dad were when his son “TJ” graduated with honors from Saint John’s High School and Harvard University in Cambridge.

Tom is survived and will be lovingly missed by his son, Thomas “TJ” Lawless of New York City; his mother, Rosalie (Prendergast) Lawless Borbone of Worcester; his sisters, Mary Anne Sullivan and her husband Paul of Princeton, Rosalie Lawless and her husband Michael Jarominski of Sutton and Lois Pepper of Millbury; his brothers, John Lawless and his wife Kathy of San Antonio, TX and Michael Lawless and his wife Joan of Weymouth; nephews, Paul, Michael and Kevin Sullivan, John Lawless; a niece, Maria Walker ; a great-nephew, John Lawless; a great-niece, Kalie Walker; and his former wife, Sandra (Aviles) Velasquez of Rutland. He was the son of the late Attorney John J. Lawless and he was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph J. Borbone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Tom’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at Saint Patrick Church, 258 Main St., Rutland. Burial will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Saint John’s Fund, Saint John’s High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
