PRINCETON – Gene A. Walker, 50, of Princeton, died Friday, September 21, 2007, surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.
He is survived by his parents, Lester and Mary (Costello) Walker of Princeton; two sisters, Susan Keirstead and her husband Dale of West Boylston and Marlene Bean and her husband Dennis of Paxton; three brothers, Wayne and his wife Teri of Rutland, Glenn and his wife Joanne of Worcester and John and his wife Robin of Florida; many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Judy O’Dell.
Gene was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, last serving in Germany during the Gulf War, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment mechanic while in the military and worked as a mechanic by trade. Gene was a member of the Athol/Orange Elks and the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post 102 in Athol. Gene, being the free spirit he was, touched hearts everywhere he went. He wished to thank his caregivers both from Hospice and at University Commons in Worcester.
A memorial service for Gene will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th, in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 07101. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
