HOLDEN – William F. Barrett, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and quiet strength.
Born on June 12, 1929, in Milford, MA, William was the son of the late Arthur and Adelaide Barrett. He grew up locally and graduated from Hopedale High School, where he proudly played baseball and basketball. He also served as the Class Treasurer for four years.
Following graduation, William attended Becker Junior College. He then worked at Stanley Woolen Mill in Uxbridge as a cost accountant.
In December 1950, William enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country with pride. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Clark University.
William worked as an accountant and financial advisor throughout his career, which included Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) serving as the comptroller, Chamberlain College and Digital Equipment Corporation. After retiring, he continued sharing his expertise as a consultant which included the Central Mass Safety Council.
A man of many interests, William enjoyed gardening, watching sports, and playing pool. He had a lifelong passion for mechanics and could often be found tinkering with his own vehicles. He and his wife also ran an antique business together first as Salisbury Peddlers and then as Valerie and Bill Barrett Antiques. They also enjoyed travelling throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.
His loving wife of 70 years, Valerie K. (Barrister) Barrett predeceased him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Adelaide Barrett, and his siblings, Eileen Snow, Lawrence Barrett and Richard Barrett.
He is lovingly survived by his children, Deborah (Jaime) Sanchez of Worcester, Stephen Barrett of Canterbury, NH, Paul (Liza) Barrett of Williamstown and Susan Barrett of Holden; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made in William’s honor to a charity of your choice.
