PAXTON - William Chester "Buddy" Congdon, 76, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Chester A. and Grace E. (Judkins) Congdon.
Buddy graduated from Wachusett High School with the class of 1959. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Buddy served as a Corpsman in the Navy at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and later the Chelsea Naval Hospital. He later earned a degree in teaching from Worcester State College and went on to work in the psychiatric ward at Rutland Heights Hospital and later as a teacher and night nurse at the Devereux School in Rutland. He loved sports and was a gifted soft ball pitcher. During the 1970s and '80s Buddy played for a number of amateur softball teams including Beef and Bourbon and Friendly House teams. He also loved golfing, especially with his brothers.
Buddy is survived by his siblings, David Congdon of Rutland, Mark Moulton of Avon, CT, Donald Congdon of Rutland and Lynne Kline of Worcester; as well as fourteen nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Buddy's family to honor, celebrate and remember his life from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will be private at a later date at Rural Cemetery, Rutland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Red Cross, Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, P.O.
