William L. Masters

Biography
HOLDEN - William L. Masters, 86, formerly of Maynard and Somerville, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Boston, son of the late John H. and Josephine (Steadman) Masters.

As a young man at the end of World War II, Bill entered the U.S. Army and was training to be deployed to Europe when the war ended. Following his discharge, Bill worked for several years at the Naval Ship Yard in the Boston area, then for General Electric. Bill retired as an assembler at the GenRad division of the Teradyne Corporation. In 1951, Bill married the former Edith May Noftle at the Somerville Methodist Church. Together, they shared more than 63 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is also survived by his four children, Linda Mettauer, Donna Smith, Donald Masters and Robert Masters; his sister, Josephine Doyle; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sons, John Masters and William L. Masters, Jr.

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Friday, September 26, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1216 Main Street, Holden. Bill’s family will then receive guests in the church hall following the services. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520 or to Overlook VNA, Attn: Development Dept., P.O. Box 1000, Charlton, MA 01507. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
