William 'Harry' Williston

HOLDEN, MA – William “Harry” Williston, 75, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 19, 2016 after an illness. He was born in Douglastown, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Harry W. and Ada M. (McLenaghan) Williston and had lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Holden 37 years ago.
He leaves his loving wife of 39 years, Dawn C. (Mattson) Williston; two sons, Russell W. Williston and his wife, Sara of Lancaster and Andrew D. Williston and his wife, Sarah of Somerville; five sisters, Lillian Murray, Jane Henwood, Bertha Shaddick, Carolyn Richards and Lydia Meszaro; his two grandchildren, Adele and Harper; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Williston.
Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany with the 385th and the 709th Military Police. After serving his country, he continued his education and graduated from Assumption College with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Harry worked in the research department at Norton Company for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden, a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 180 and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
A private committal service with military honors will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMass Memorial Foundation, Office of Advancement, Transplant Patient Assistance Fund, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
